Grundfos completes Metasphere rebrand in Australia

Grundfos has completed the rebrand of Metasphere in Australia, bringing the telemetry and analytics business fully under the Grundfos name.
The move completes Metasphere's integration into Grundfos' water utility business following the earlier acquisition.
In Australia, Metasphere has established itself as a supplier of remote monitoring hardware, sensors and predictive analytics for water authorities and local councils. Its products have been used to monitor wastewater networks and support operational decisions across sewer and stormwater systems.
The rebrand combines Metasphere's telemetry products with Grundfos' engineering support and water utility portfolio in the local market. Australian customers using Metasphere systems will now deal with the business under the unified Grundfos brand.
Sewer pressure
Grundfos linked the move to growing pressure on wastewater networks from severe weather, ageing underground pipes and urban growth. Utilities across Australia face operational strain when heavy rainfall overwhelms older systems, while dry conditions can contribute to sediment build-up and blockages in sewers.
Within that context, the combined offering includes Metasphere's ART Sewer and Grundfos Connect Sewer Insights platforms. These systems use level and rainfall data from field assets to give operators warnings about network conditions and emerging faults.
The systems can help utilities identify inflow and infiltration in sewer networks, where stormwater or groundwater enters pipes and reduces available capacity. Operators can also use the data to detect dry-weather blockages caused by tree roots or fatbergs before they lead to overflows.
The integration reflects a wider shift among utilities towards earlier detection of network problems, rather than relying on physical inspection or responding only after failures occur. For councils and water authorities managing large buried networks, remote telemetry has become a more prominent tool as climate variability and maintenance backlogs increase operating risks.
Sam Ryder outlined the company's view of the combined business.

He also described the rationale for the integration.
"By fully integrating Metasphere into Grundfos, we are pairing market-leading remote monitoring with our core capabilities to support local councils and utilities facing severe weather, aging assets, and population growth. The synergies between our hardware and their analytical software mean we can offer a truly holistic solution to the market.
"Building robust sewer and storm resilience requires moving away from reactive repairs to predictive network management. Our ultimate goal is to help Australian network operators tackle persistent issues like inflow and infiltration and optimise the underground capacity they already have. This protects vulnerable communities and critical waterways without relying solely on expensive, disruptive, and large-scale civil construction projects," said Ryder.
Data and support
Another part of the announcement focused on data ownership and integration with existing utility systems. Grundfos said its digital products are built on open standards, allowing utilities to retain control of their operational data and connect telemetry tools with asset management and SCADA systems already in use.
This approach addresses a recurring concern among public utilities and councils when adopting monitoring platforms: whether new systems will create dependence on a single supplier or make it harder to integrate information across operational software.
For existing Metasphere customers in Australia, product supply arrangements, service agreements, warranties and local technical support will remain unchanged. Support will now sit within Grundfos Australia's broader national service and logistics network.
That structure gives water authorities and asset managers access to wider engineering support across states and territories, while maintaining continuity for installations already operating in the field.
Australia's wastewater sector has come under closer scrutiny as utilities deal with both heavier downpours and periods of drought, two conditions that can expose weaknesses in sewer and stormwater networks in different ways. Monitoring systems that provide early alerts on rising levels, abnormal flows or potential blockages have become part of efforts to limit spills, environmental damage and emergency repair costs.
Against that backdrop, the Metasphere name is being retired from the Australian market as Grundfos fully absorbs the business into its local water utility operations.
